Lisa and Sean McDonald's wedding at Farnham Castle, Surrey, 5th Nov 2019 - Vickis Floral Designs

This was only the second time I had made flowers for a wedding in a castle, and what a wonderful venue Farnham Castle is! An English Heritage site in Farnham Surrey, standing on its hill for nearly 900 years, the castle is one of the few remaining great medieval houses of England, and now used as a romantic, exclusive wedding venue. From lofty high ceilings, grand staircases, leaded windows and the Great Hall, my breath was taken away by its beauty and amazing surroundings.

Lisa and Sean had chosen such an awe inspiring venue, the flowers had to match! I first met Lisa and Sean for their wedding flowers consultation nearly a year before the big day. Lisa wanted a bouquet that was loose and natural, that complemented her stunning wedding dress, and equally stunning venue. We discussed lots of different bouquet styles, and eventually Lisa chose a hand tied shower bouquet. I love to work with seasonal flowers as much as possible and our discussions led us to wintery shades of white Ammi, Alpe’ de Huez roses, sweet smelling freesias, the delectable Earl grey and blush Charmant roses, white hypericum berries and gorgeous, lush British foliage. Seeing Lisa with her the bouquet was stunning, and her bridesmaids looked equally gorgeous with hand tied bouquets of the same flowers. Sean’s buttonhole was a trio of the sweet smelling freesia and a hint of eucalyptus and Lisa’s mum had an elegant wrist corsage of freesias.

Lisa and Sean had a very clear vision for their table centres, and wanted biodegradable/ no waste designs. We looked at different options and chose the white and grey pumpkins filled with moss and succulents, which were given away after the wedding. Believe me, it was tricky obtaining the pumpkins, as most are orange, but only really available in October, and as their wedding was in November, I had to make sure they didn’t rot before then! The couple had been collecting and decorating bottles to compliment the filled pumpkins.

The reception hall fireplace was decorated with a fabulous gold and blush balloon arch by Bubblegum Balloons, and the stunning entrance hallway draped with thousands of crystal sparkling lights by Lighting Hire. The professional photos taken by the amazing team at Fire & Ice really give you the feeling of drama and excitement.

It was truly a pleasure to work with Lisa and Sean.
